Doctor on call: NHS to recommend health apps

Private Medical Insurance (PMI) is traditionally thought of as a luxury in the UK, only available to those who can pay high premiums. But this isn't necessarily the case.
There are several budget plans now available and PMI policies can be tailored to cover specific aspects of healthcare (such as a prompt diagnosis). As well as making it more affordable, tailored PMI policies can effectively address the individual needs of patients, allowing them to 'go private' at certain stages in their treatment if they wish.
Currently, there are three main types of PMI available; individual health insurance, family health insurance or children's health insurance.
If you're concerned about the cost, you can opt for higher excesses to gain lower premiums each month. An excess is where you agree to pay a certain amount towards the cost of your healthcare if or when you need it.
PMI will suit those who want efficient and personal healthcare in a comfortable environment. It gives patients prompt access to private hospitals (or private wings in NHS hospitals), where they can rely on having a clean and hygienic bed, a private room and thorough consultations with doctors.
It also allows patients more choice and flexibility concerning their treatment – they can choose where and when they want to be treated.
Patients who are concerned about certain aspects of the NHS (standards of hygiene or long waiting lists, for example) should take out PMI for peace of mind, knowing they can expect the highest possible standard of healthcare at the time they need it the most.
