The health insurance coverage situation continues to haunt the media today, with fresh news that a team of senators have agreed on a blueprint for an increased level of medical insurance coverage, and are taking it to the top.
Five Republican and five Democrat senators will approach President George Bush with their proposal, and the White House has accepted them. Apparently, the letter is regarded as unique and should kickstart negotiations to improve the health insurance situation in America.
Unlike the United Kingdom, the United States has no National Health Service . The report apparently calls for quality, affordable health insurance for all Americans. President Bush has proposed a major shift in American tax policy that could include health insurance costs as a taxable income, a move criticised by some experts.
Allan Hubbard, the director of the National Economic Council, reportedly commented: "The president put his health care proposal forward in the State of the Union. These senators are taking that proposal seriously, and we look forward to working with them to find common ground."
