According to 75 per cent of health specialists, health insurance companies should monitor consultants to make sure that their practice is effective and in line with expectations. The findings were revealed by independent research carried out on behalf of BUPA . The study aimed to address whether consultants were satisfied about the practice of medical insurers .
The annual survey revealed that over half of all consultants surveyed had private medical insurance (which sits neatly alongside a recent study finding that a 1/5th of GPs had private health insurance cover), and over half had BUPA cover.
The medical director of BUPA Health Insurance, Dr. Natalie-Jane Macdonald, reportedly said: This demonstrates that consultants both recognise the benefits of private health cover and choose to rely on BUPA. We are acutely aware of the need to keep our health care cover comprehensive to meet all our members' needs and at the same time our premiums affordable. This is why we have been working with consultants and hospitals to ensure our three million members continue to have access to high quality consultant-led healthcare at a price which represents value for money .
