16 per cent of Americans do not have health insurance

According to a study by the Kaiser Commission, the research department of the Henry Kaiser Foundation, over 46 million American people do not have health insurance . When compared to the overall population, this figure constitutes approximately one in six. The need for health insurance in America is different to our need within the United Kingdom, due to the provision of our national health service.

The Henry Kaiser Fonudation, who are a nonprofit, private foundation that focus on major health care issues that affect the nation, found that most people who have health insurance in America usually do so from their employers . Two thirds of uninsured were reported to be low-income .

The report indicates that, in the climate of rising health care costs in the USA, many people are simply being left behind by the existing healthcare system.
