Health Insurance Company studies specialist surplus

Fri, 13 Jul 2007

According to major health insurance company BUPA, the surplus in medical specialists in western countries could be put to use averting major health crises in the developing world. The survey was commissioned by BUPA, and conducted by Ipsos MORI.

The study, known as the World Health Report, indicates that the developing world is short of millions of trained healthcare professionals. In America and other developed nations, there is a surplus of trained doctors and other specialists.

The general public supported overseas placement for surplus doctors, who could go a long way in helping major healthcare problems. The findings are presented at the BUPA Health Debate, held by the private medical insurance firm. BUPA is one of the market leaders in health and care, with over 8 million customers internationally.
