Michael Moore, the controversial author of the new health insurance film Sicko, believes that America should adopt a European model of national health service provision for all. Meanwhile, political disruption over government decisions to close district general hospitals is intensifying.
In news that will no impact the majority of private medical insurance policyholders, Gordon Brown has dismissed claims from David Cameron that Labour will shut down hospitals. Cameron claimed that specialist hospitals, as proposed by the new health minister, could impact on normal hospitals, leaving those without health insurance in a difficult situation.
Cameron reportedly commented: "What can that mean if it does not mean cutbacks in department and closures within existing hospitals?" Brown in turn dismissed the suggestions, saying: "We are prepared to spend more money on the health service, he [Mr Cameron] has not committed a penny."
