In a controversial move that may drive even more consumers to health insurance and private medical insurance, one NHS trust is set to cut their workforce drastically, by as many as 600 jobs . Once union, Unison, has spoken out against the proposal, commenting that they are: really struggling to see how the trust can actually function with that number of people out of the workforce.
Scarborough and North East Yorkshire NHS trust are set to meet with union members and hospital staff. Unison, following this consultation stage, will contact Alan Johnson, the health secretary.
Mr. Gray, speaking on behalf of Unison, commented: Scarborough's not a very big town – this is the only health employer for 40/50 miles so if you take that many workers out of the economy it's going to be quite drastic.
Another Unison official, Karen Jennings, reportedly commented: These 600 compulsory redundancies will resonate across the NHS and strike fear into the heart of local communities and staff where there are historic debts . A situation this serious cannot be a matter solely for local NHS managers. We need a fresh approach from the new secretary of state for health .
