Insurance guide drafted up

Mon, 02 Jul 2007

The trade body for the UK insurance industry, the Association of British Insurers (ABI), has launched a new guide to critical illness insurance cover . The guide will help consumers to understand the exact function of the insurance product, and exactly what is covered by it.

At this stage, consumers are not able to access the guide, as the draft is being studied by the industry. Critical illness insurance is a complex product, and the new guide determines why it is needed, what is excluded, what is covered, its cost, and the process of making a claim . Earlier this year, surveys revealed that consumers were mistrusting of critical illness insurance and the companies that sold it.

The head of health and protection insurance at the ABI, Nick Kirwan, reportedly commented: "This guide builds on the work we’ve already done to make definitions of illnesses clearer and the application process more straightforward. Ultimately, all our initiatives are geared towards increasing the number of claims that are paid."
