More and more people are turning to private medical insurance, according to recent figures by the Association of British Insurers (ABI.) The figures come despite claims by Tony Blair that the NHS has been subject to significant improvements, with real reduction in waiting lists.
According to the ABI, 1,030,000 people in the UK had private medical insurance policies . Health insurance of this type, once considered a luxury of the rich, are becoming more affordable for all types of consumers.
Nick Starling, the Director of General Insurance and Health at the ABI reportedly commented: "Private Medical Insurance offers people greater choice of treatment and other services for a wide range of medical conditions and injuries. It also takes pressure off the NHS, so by buying PMI, people are effectively reducing the burden on Britains hard-pressed health service. It is encouraging that more individuals are choosing to buy Private Medical Insurance for themselves and their families."
