Insurance industry needs to change cancer policy

Tue, 12 Jun 2007

According to a recent call from Cancerbackup, made in support of further claims by Macmillan Cancer Support, the insurance industry needs to treat cancer patients in a more fair manner.

Cancer can cause problems with all sorts of insurance policies, including life insurance, health insurance and travel insurance. Macmillan Cancer Support, a popular charity, are apparently not impressed by Association of British Insurers attempts to justify contemporary travel insurance policies.

Joanne Rule, the chief executive of Cancerbackup reportedly commented: "MCS research reinforces what Cancerbackup found last year- many cancer patients are unfairly discriminated against by insurance providers. The insurance industry must act now and start listening to people with a history of cancer and the assurances of their doctors. By taking people's individual circumstances into account when assessing risk, travel insurance companies could open themselves up to a huge growing market of potential customers."
