Health service restrictions possible

Tue, 20 Mar 2007

The National Health Service, the state-provided healthcare system used by the UK public who do not have health cash plans or private medical insurance, could face a crisis further down the line, only offering core services for free. The government on Monday revealed the news, which does not affect those who already have health insurance . For those services beyond the core, it looks like patients may have to pay in the future .

The news was contained within a public services policy review launched this week by Blair and Brown. The Health department have since confirmed that they will be "looking at the possibility in the normal process of policy development" and are looking at which services everyone should be entitled to.

The future could see some treatments and drugs, including those for infertility or obesity, not being included, making them only accessible to those who would pay, or who have private health insurance .
