Cancer and health insurance

Tue, 29 May 2007

Cancerbackup have reiterated recent calls from Macmillan Cancer Support that patients with cancer are being treated unfairly by insurance companies who sell travel insurance .

The charity voiced their disapproval with the trade association ABI (Association of British Insurers) attempts to justify current policies. Joanne Rule, the chief executive of Cancerbackup, reportedly commented: "MCS research reinforces what Cancerbackup found last year- many cancer patients are unfairly discriminated against by insurance providers. The insurance industry must act now and start listening to people with a history of cancer and the assurances of their doctors . By taking people's individual circumstances into account when assessing risk, travel insurance companies could open themselves up to a huge growing market of potential customers."

Cancer drugs recently hit medical and health insurance news when it transpired the cost of a new wave could cripple the NHS.
