The major health insurance deal between health insurance provider PruHealth and pharmacy/healthcare retailer Boots has involved international law firm Lovells in the deal. Lovells acted to advise Pruhealth, with whom they have an existing relationship, on distribution arrangement and IP issues.
The deal is one of the largest in recent health insurance industry history, and will see Boots offer co-branded private health insurance policies in their high street stores and on their website. It is the first retail partnership that Pruhealth have undertaken. Boots used their legal counsel David Foster throughout the deal.
Rachel Kent, the lead partner of the Lovells team involved in the deal, reportedly commented: It was pretty much a straightforward co-branding deal for Pru-Health. However, the size of the deal is significant. Boots is a very well-known, large retailer so this is very interesting for PruHealth. Prudential doesn't have a formal panel of firms, but we've worked closely with the company in the past and we're a key provider of legal services to PruHealth.
The private medical insurance policies will incorporate the Vitality rewards programme already offered by Boots.
