According to a new report by the Economic Policy Institute in America, the number of American people who lack health insurance now stands at over 47 million. Between 2000 and 2006, the number of people without medical insurance climbed by 8.6 million.
More people of every income level, including children, now suffer without health insurance . The report, carried out by the Washington-based institute, indicated that the decline is down to less employer-provided health insurance policies .
Millions more children now do not have health insurance, either due to failure in the public system or lack of cover from employer parent insurance. The report also found that the loss of coverage extended across all ethnic and income groups. The report concluded: "The decline in employer coverage was pervasive and felt throughout the country."
