Cheaper health insurance by being healthy

Tue, 27 Nov 2007

A new range of private medical insurance policies on the UK health insurance market reduce cost if the policyholders can prove that they are making active moves to improve their health . This can include simple things such as shopping on eBay or purchasing fresh fruit from Sainsbury’s supermarket, both of which can drive private health insurance premium costs with the right insurance policy .

Health insurance policyholders can drive down the cost of their premiums by purchasing fresh fruit and vegetables at their local Sainsbury’s, and also curb their insurance costs by buying sports equipment on eBay. Furthermore, wearing a pedometer and attending a gym could keep private medical insurance premiums to a minimum.

The novel insurance discounts are part of a new range from the innovative health insurance company PruHealth. Top partners in the Pruhealth Vitality Points scheme include eBay, Boots, Virgin Active, Cannons, La Fitness, a stop smoking guide and supermarket chain Sainsbury’s.

The chief executive of Pruhealth, Shaun Mattison, reportedly commented: "We are delighted to have teamed up with eBay in such an innovative online deal where once again we are rewarding members for doing what they are already doing. Partnering with such a well known and frequently visited website means we have access to a wide customer base."
