Private health insurance enquiries climbing

Mon, 26 Nov 2007

The increase in numbers and severity of National Health Service superbugs has prompted a flood of health insurance enquiries. The Fair Investment Company conducted research that found private medical insurance almost doubled during the month of September, when compared to August figures.

NHS superbugs have become more complex than ever before in recent months, with new and lethal strains identified in many UK hospitals. NHS waiting lists are also thought to be behind increased private medical insurance applications. Both of these NHS shortfalls prompted a 53 per cent increase in the number of people looking for private healthcare .

Speaking on behalf of the Fair Investment Company, James Caldwell reportedly commented: "The press is full of reports of infection spreading in hospitals, consequently an increasing amount of people feel that private healthcare is the only feasible option."
