Healthy growth for private medical insurance plans

Mon, 01 Oct 2007

Private medical insurance plans are going from strength to strength in the UK, with employer-sponsored PMI policies climbing to encompass some 7.4 million people, over 12 per cent of the population of the UK. The news was reported by top healthcare consultant Laing and Buisson.

Several major health insurance companies were pleased with sales of private medical insurance . The sales director of PruHealth, Dave Priestley, reportedly commented: "The key influencer that pushes people to take out private insurance is their perception of the NHS."

Fundamentally agreeing, senior development manager at Norwich Union Healthcare, Nick Homer, reportedly commented: "We’ve gone through this period of increased investment in the NHS and for a time it looked as if it was turning a corner. But it seems to have gone full circle and people are concerned about the same reputational issues. The NHS is an important factor in what drives people’s desire to purchase PMI ."
