Tesco intend to dominate private health insurance market

Many health insurance companies and brokers will be tightening their belts today, upon hearing that Tesco will pursue an aggressive strategy to win market share in the private medical insurance industry.

Tesco, who have only been selling health insurance policies since January, are now making their intentions to extend into the market known. The supermarket giant is offering customers with medical cover a guaranteed saving if they are prepared to switch.

Members of health insurance plans with companies such as Standard Life and BUPA are being offered slashed premiums of around 20 per cent less. Customers are being urged to phone in for a quote.

Jeremy Sutton, the head of savings and investments, reportedly commented: "Tesco entered the private medical insurance (PMI) market to encourage more people to look at PMI by offering straightforward products at prices which offer good value. We have price-checked and found we were cheaper than other providers for eight out of ten people."
