No free healthcare in many countries travelers warned

Thu, 27 Sep 2007

Travellers from the UK who are thinking about moving or working abroad have been reminded that not all countries provide a free healthcare service like the National Health Service, and the cost of healthcare abroad can be surprisingly high.

American Express quoted a recent survey by the Office of National Statistics. The study revealed that over 500 British people are leaving Britain every day to start up a new life or job abroad.

For those who fall ill, and statistics determine that many will, having the appropriate health insurance and travel insurance cover in place could save major financial heartache. Whatever an extended period abroad yields; protecting one’s own health whilst away from home should be a foremost priority.
