Half price health insurance for fit families

Wed, 05 Sep 2007

Those families who spend money buying vegetables and make efforts to keep fit could be able to qualify for a 50 per cent discount on their private medical insurance cover .

The discount scheme, the result of a partnership between PruHealth and Sainsbury’s, could result in even greater premium reductions if policyholders exercise regularly, get health check-ups and banish unhealthy habits.

Using their Nectar card, policyholders can earn Vitality points with PruHealth – the more points racked up the greater potential for discounts. A number of other techniques are available to cut health insurance costs even further.

The chief executive of PruHealth, Shaun Mattison, reportedly commented: "This is the first time in the UK that a health insurer has provided a retail benefit on your everyday grocery shopping."
