UK health insurance company BUPA are reportedly going to increase their network of MRI units. The network, which is the only one of its kind, will be increased by a third, bringing even greater access to the technology throughout the UK.

BUPA, who are a not-for-profit health insurance firm, launched the network in 2006. Getting a scan with one of the machines allows customers better value for money, by as much as 20 per cent.

BUPA regularly conduct audits of the service, with the intention of providing up-to-the-minute technology for their patients. The MRI units are located at both private and NHS hospitals around the country.

The deputy medical director of BUPA Health Insurance, Dr. Paula Franklin, reportedly commented: "Bupa is the first health insurer in the country to establish an approved network of MRI units that ensures quality of service and safety for patients. We have looked at everything from how quickly patients get an appointment for a scan to the upkeep and maintenance of the equipment and safety standards."
