Health insurance improved for chronic diseases

Wed, 16 Apr 2008

One of the leading expatriate health insurance companies, BUPA international, are now offering health insurance cover both for the diagnosis and control of chronic diseases, as increased numbers of sufferers make chronic diseases the leading cause of mortality in the world.

The World Health Organisation recently ranked chronic diseases (including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke) as the leading causes of death. Customers joining BUPA may be covered for treatment, consultation and drugs to control chronic disease such as diabetes and asthma .

Millions of people in the UK are diabetic, and with rates of obesity and metabolic syndrome increasing, this number is likely to soar. The global sales director of BUPA international, Tim Slee, was reported in the medical insurance news as commenting:

"We are always looking for ways to offer better value to our customers. As conditions such as diabetes are becoming increasingly prevalent wherever you are in the world, our extension of chronic disease cover reflects a very significant benefit to our members."

The extension will affect customers of the Lifeline policy.
