Superbugs drive private health insurance demand

Thu, 14 Aug 2008

Following on from reports earlier this week, leading private health insurance company BUPA has confirmed that fears over dirty hospitals and in particular superbugs are driving increased demand for private health insurance policies .

Research indicates that the nation is particularly fearful about hospital bugs such as MRSA and C Difficile. The 2008 BUPA Health of the Nation survey found that almost 75 per cent of Brits chose clean hospitals as the reason to have a private medical insurance policy .

Furthermore, BUPA research indicates that around a third of people in the UK would pay to have an operation privately in the future, whilst 80 per cent of PMI policyholders would recommend it to their friends.
