Health low priority for employers, health insurance company reports

Mon, 04 Feb 2008

The health insurance arm of Norwich Union has found that health in the work place remains a low priority for businesses, even though employee wellbeing is essential to drive business performance . Despite being aware of this, UK businesses are apparently reluctant to invest .

Norwich Union Healthcare conducted a further Health of the Workplace study, which indicates how employee wellbeing impacts on productivity levels. Many employers were found to be willing to invest due to a lack of government incentives, whilst some 25 per cent were unsure how to apply health information.

Speaking for Norwich Union Healthcare, Dr. Douglas Wright was reported in the private medical insurance news as commenting: "Our report reveals a real guidance gap in employers’ approach to workplace health. Companies know the value of workplace health but many are unaware of the services already available to them and believe that more financial incentives are needed to encourage a better approach to occupational health . It is important to bridge that gap, embed the enthusiasm that exists on all sides on occupational health and move towards putting workable solutions in place."
