According to a recent report, thousands of healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses and dentists have chosen to take out cheap private medical insurance cover with BUPA, one of the leading health insurance companies in the UK.

A Scotland on Sunday reported blew the lid on the practice that private insurance company BUPA offer discounts to NHS staff. The scheme, known as ‘preferential’, gives health workers the option of getting cheaper medical insurance .

Figures obtained by the newspaper indicate that 12,000 doctors and 15,000 nurses are already insured under the scheme. The president of the NHS Consultants’ Association, Peter Fisher, was reported as commenting: "This demonstrates a lack of confidence in the NHS services they are providing if they won't take it themselves."
