Health Insurance Company miss out on Irish complaint

According to the health insurance news today, private medical insurance company BUPA have lost out on a complaint made about the Irish governmental compensation scheme for private medical insurance in the country.

The European Commission made it clear that EU countries had considerable rights over their national healthcare systems. BUPA, an international private health insurance company, complained about the Irish medical insurance scheme that requires low-risk insurers to compensate high-risk insurers.

When BUPA operated in Ireland, which it no longer does, the company had to pay considerable amounts to state-owned Voluntary Health Insurance Boards (VHI.) The BUPA operation in Ireland was taken over by Irish company Quinn last year, following BUPA dissatisfaction with the system.
