Pet health insurance has a good year

Tue, 29 Jan 2008

According to Sainsbury’s Pet Insurance, the pet health insurance industry had a booming year last year, with as many as 1.8 million pet insurance claims made in the UK.

The claims were made to counter the cost of veterinary treatment, largely for cats and dogs . However, as many as 18,000 claims are made for pets which are lost or stolen. Pet owners without pet insurance, Sainsbury’s estimate, pay for as many as 5.5 million veterinary treatments per annum.

The Pet Insurance Manager at Sainsbury’s, Claire Moyles, reportedly commented: "Our analysis demonstrates that pet insurance isn't just a nice to have product. Events in which you may find yourself needing to claim are more common than you may wish to consider."
