France reconsider expat healthcare policy

Mon, 28 Jan 2008

France has reconsidered their hardline approach to prevent expatriates from the UK having access to French state health insurance .

The French authorities had taken an aggressive approach, forewarning retired expats in France that they would no longer be eligible for a government health insurance policy .

However, the decision was toned down last November, when it was revealed that those already claiming state health insurance would remain covered. The most recent news indicates that those who already lived in France before November 23rd last year would be eligible.

However, when it comes to those only now moving to France, they will not qualify and will have to get a private health insurance policy .
