The health insurance debate raging in industry news this month regarding the Government decision to allow private top-ups on National Health Service care has attracted comment from both health insurance companies, unions and consumers.
Whilst consumers seem to be in favour of the decision, and insurance companies can potentially spot a new way of making money, concerned groups think that companies will exploit the loophole and an unfair two-tier system will be created.
Speaking on the issue, Fergus Craig of AXA PPP Healthcare reportedly commented: "This is excellent news for patients and their families. We will be studying the new guidance carefully to ensure our top up offering fully complements their NHS care. We expect to make this available very soon. This is not a two-tier system - but a move towards a high performing balanced healthcare system that draws on the best of the NHS and the independent healthcare sector. With ever increasing demand for healthcare services, insurers are playing an important part in helping to meet the nation's healthcare needs."
