US health insurance costs to soar

Fri, 26 Sep 2008

According to health insurance news from America, health insurance premiums for federal employees could soar by as much as 8 per cent in 2009. The Office of Personnel Management revealed the massive increase.

The medical insurance premium hike will affect most workers even more, with an anticipated 13 per cent increase for some workers. The OPM associate director for strategic human resources, Nancy Kichak, reportedly commented: "We worked very hard to contain premium costs, and we were more successful with some health plans than with others."

The health insurance situation in the US is very different to the UK. In America, more employers offer health insurance to their workers. There is no National Health Service, so those without health insurance face health care difficulties.
