Debate has broken out between private medical insurance intermediaries over a new information portal that combines data from all major private hospital companies. The argument is focused on the value of this information to health insurance companies .
The data reportedly highlights the differences between the private hospital sector and the National Health Service. Some intermediaries are questioning whether this comparison needs to be highlighted. Infection prevention is known as the number one issue that makes people choose private healthcare .
Insurance industry experts, such as Laurent Pochat-Cottilloux, the commercial director of Standard Life Healthcare, indicate that this type of data needs to be highlighted and shared to advance the PMI market. He reportedly said: I have never read in advertising that you are 12 times less likely to get a hospital-acquired infection in a private hospital. We have been relatively coy about the benefits of our product.
