According to Irish health insurance news, health insurance costs will climb for hundreds of thousands of customers – by as much as a quarter. The shocking news was released by Quinn Healthcare, who said private medical insurance price increases would range from 8% to 25%. Quinn have over half a million customers.
Premiums are being increased on basic Quinn medical insurance policies, and are being blamed on a Government levy of 160 euros for each adult on the books of an insurance company . The price for individual and family cover will therefore soar, leaving many struggling to cover the cost.
Donal Clancy, the general manager of Quinn Healthcare, was reported as saying: The levy represents 48pc of the premium for the cheapest product on the market and just 6pc on higher level plans.
