British companies who employ migrant workers must have health insurance cover to take pressure off the NHS.
The announcement made by the Government coincides with the news of the first ever cap on how many non-EU workers come to the UK due to come in next year.
The aim of the proposals is to reduce the competition for NHS appointments and resources by ensuring employers pay for medical insurance for the duration of their migrant workers’ contracts.
The measures were announced by Teresa May, Home Secretary, after concerns were raised by ministers that public health services could not cope with the pressure put on it by immigration .
She said, We all recognise some of the social issues about pressure on public services, pressure on schools and hospitals and also pressure on housing .
