Customers with PruHealth will be able to get up to 50% off mobile contracts, cruise holidays and gym membership thanks to a new discount programme from the health insurance provider.
Policyholders with the highest level of cover could save as much as ££1,808 a year and those with the lowest level could save around £1,355. This means that health insurance "could pay for itself" through the discount scheme, says PruHealth, as its average premiums cost around £898.
The Vitality Points scheme also allows customers to earn up to 20% of their premiums as cashback.
PruHealth is the latest health insurer to offer a discount programme so that policyholders can stay healthy and be much less likely to claim. For those still going to the gym as part of their New Year's Resolution, discounts include 50% off LA Fitness and Virgin Active gym membership, as well as sportswear retailers Adidas and Sweatshop.
But the health insurer is going much further by offering discounts with the National Trust, Thomas Cook, Imagine Cruising and Merlin family days out - holidays and leisure time are crucial to maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle and having such trips in the diary can motivate people to stay healthy.
There is also a huge 50% off contracts with Vodafone, which may alone tempt people to take out the insurance.
If the cost of health insurance deters you from taking out a policy, there are a number of ways to reduce the cost of your cover. You can take out a budget health plan, shop around or agree to take a basic level of cover or pay a higher excess.
