Death risk: Why you should avoid hospitals on weekends
03 Feb 2012
Whether your teeth are in peak condition or not nearly so good, you can get cover for dental treatment.
Most providers start cover immediately once the insurance is taken out and many policies have the following as part of their standard cover:
Many policies allow the option of extending the cover to partners and dependant children. Children under 18 years old receive free NHS treatment, but additional private cover can be taken out for a child to have private treatment. Dependants over 18 years and up to 24 years of age are normally covered under a policy if they are in full time education. Extra premiums for partners and children will be the responsibility of the main policyholder.
As well as routine treatment, some policies also provide for world-wide emergency cover, accidental and sports injury cover. Should treatment abroad be necessary, obtain a receipt from the dentist who carried out the treatment (in English) and make a claim on your return the UK. The amount should be reimbursed at the sterling equivalent using the exchange rate prevailing at the date of settlement.
Terms of individual policies will vary, therefore you should read these carefully to ensure the intended policy is the right one for your circumstances.
